Google (
GOOG) has been rumored to be getting in the television game for quite some time. In reality, it already is. Google's YouTube purchase back in 2006 turned it into the largest video distribution outlet on the planet, and in many ways YouTube bypasses traditional media outlets and networks to connect content producers and consumers easily with very little (to no) cost. But, that's not enough. Google needs to encroach on the 50-inch flat screen television instead of being relegated to squinting eyes needed on a laptop screen.

Do you like the feel and crackle of new money? If you do, you will like the new $100 bills.
They are designed with the latest technology to deter counterfeiters.
Here's a peek at what they will look like and the special technology that went into their production:
- There is a blue three dimensional security ribbon with alternating images of bells and the number 100 that move and changes as the viewing angle is tilted. The blue ribbon in embedded in the fabric of the note.
- There is another security strip, visible to the left of Franklin's head, It is visible when held up to the light. It, too, is embedded in the fabric.
- There is a bell image inside a picture of an inkwell that changes from copper to green when tilted and a large 100 that does the same.
- The new note has a watermark of Franklin's portrait, also visible when held up to the light.
The reason for these changes is that counterfeiters, mainly from North Korea, were able to pass off their counterfeit "super note" as real currency, usually outside the United States. This is a big problem because there are roughly $6.5 billion $100 notes in circulation. Plus, two thirds of Federal Reserve notes in circulation are outside the United States.
Fed chairman, Bernanke said officials will work to educate people on the changes in the new bill. The new $100 notes are scheduled for issue in 2011. The older notes now in circulation will be destroyed as they are replaced with the new Ben Franklins.
Do you believe that the old Ben Franklins will be collector's items?

Talk about a good first weekend. This morning Apple (AAPL) announced that it sold more than 300,000 iPads as of midnight on Saturday, including deliveries of preordered iPads to customers, to channel partners, and sales at Apple Retail Stores. The company added that iPad users downloaded more than 1,000,000 apps from their App Store and more than 250,000 ebooks from its iBookstore the first day.
Steve Jobs noted that "It feels great to have the iPad launched into the world -- it's going to be a game changer ... iPad users, on average, downloaded more than three apps and close to one book within hours of unpacking their new iPad." This is great news for the company, and it lead to JPMorgan upping the company's price target to $305 from $240 while raising 2010 EPS estimates to $12.74 from $11.59. Kaufman expects AAPL to now reach $295 as well.

Apple's (AAPL) new wonder device, the iPad, got off to a strong start even before this weekend's official launch date. Eager customers lined up at Apple stores Saturday to get their hands on the new and much-hyped tablet-style PC. This was due in part, no doubt, to the fact that Apple sold out of preorders of the iPad.
With a starting price of $499 to $699, estimates for iPad sales for all of 2010 range from 3 million to 6 million units. Estimates for just this weekend alone range from 300,000 to 500,000 units out the door and into the hand of early adopters and Apple fanatics.

With the popularity of the movie Avatar, the 3D craze is going worldwide.
Sharp Corp. (SHCAY) plans to make small, 3D liquid crystal displays that don't require special glasses. Spokesman for Sharp, Yoshisuke Hasigawa, said, "just like black and white TVs turned color, all displays will eventually be 3D capable."
Sharp has already been approached by mobile phone makers about supplying small 3D displays, Hasigawa said.

U.S. consumer electronics behemoth Best Buy Co. Inc. (BBY) will be joining Japan's Panasonic Corp. to unveil and heavily promote newer 3D television sets this quarter. As flat panel televisions continue selling at a decent but middling pace, the "next big thing" in home entertainment is ready to roll off shelves. Best Buy believes it will be 3DTV, apparently.
Panasonic will discount the prices of the rollout models by 50% as it creates demand for the new category using pricing as its primary weapon. But will customers care? Just because Panasonic is trying to reverse losses in its television operating doesn't mean customers will soon adopt a new television technology that is surely to have very limited content. If Panasonic needs a 3D ecosystem of content to push these new televisions, that could be years off.

Best Buy (BBY) will be joining Vudu -- which was recently bought by Walmart (WMT) -- Netflix (NFLX), Roxio's CinemaNow, Amazon.com (AMZN) On Demand, and others in streaming video content directly over the Internet to your favorite television set. Details are sketchy so far, but the large question is this: do we need another one of these services? The market is already saturated. What's the benefit?
For one, Best Buy's Reward Zone Premier Solver members will receive one free video rental per month. That's quite a benefit for a customer that spends $2,500 per year at the largest consumer electronics chain in the U.S. -- not. You need to throw a bigger bone to these customers, Best Buy. That's like giving a dime back for every few hundred dollars spent. Not impressive.
