OVERVIEW

Rhode Island-based Providence Equity got its start in 1989, investing chiefly in the media and communications industries. The firm has taken stakes ranging from $20 million to as much as $500 million in more than 100 companies worldwide, including Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Warner Music Group, Freedom Communications, PanAmSat, American Cellular, VoiceStream Wireless and AT&T Canada. Assets under management stand at around $21 billion.

Providence has 45 investment professionals operating out of Providence, New York, London, and its new offices in Hong Kong and New Delhi.

PORTFOLIO
Among its communications investments, Providence currently holds stakes in Freedom Communications, Grupo Corporativo Ono, Idea Cellular, Kabel Deutschland, and MobileServ. Current media properties include Univision Communications, Warner Music Group, Yankees Entertainment and Sports Network (YES Network), and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.
